An Ossuary inscribed by ink שמעון בר יונה = Shimon (Simon) son of Yonah (this reading is doubtful). From Dominus Flavit (Olive Mount, Jerusalem).

It is worth noting that the original name of Saint Peter, the foremost of the twelve apostles of Jesus mentioned in the New Testament, who is considered the first pope, was Shimon Ben Yona (Simon son of Jonah). He was also known as Kefa, the Aramaic equivalent of Petros (rock, stone). According to Christian tradition, however, Peter, the apostle of Jesus, came to Rome and died there (the world’s largest church, Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, was built in his name) — whereas the ossuary before us was discovered in Jerusalem.

A suggested alternative reading of the inscription is “Shimon bar Zila.” שמעון בר זילא
